Theatre Services Manager

We have six theatres - and a seventh in a pre-commissioned state – plus PACU, CSSD and anaesthetic tech team. It’s an excellent department with a wide range of specialties and a lot of leading edge surgery, which all makes for a really interesting and developmental environment. All lists are staffed by three Registered Nurses and one Anaesthetic Technician.

Most staff work 10 hour shifts over 4 days, with morning lists generally starting from 0730 onwards, and afternoon lists scheduled to end at 1800 hours. We’ve found that staff are very happy with the 10 hour/4 day work pattern and enjoy the extra day off. We are flexible with other shifts as well. Saturday work is fairly infrequent.

All the specialities and services have Team Leaders who are experts in their field. You will be able to focus on a main specialty area, and your Team Leader will support your learning and in consolidating your expertise.

In our theatres there’s a great team spirit, it’s also a great learning environment and we support lots of education.

Marjorie Garisch

Theatre Coordinator

I’m effectively the floor manager looking after the flow of the department. I coordinate the staffing and equipment, making sure the mix in the team is right for the list. I also work with the Team Leaders to allocate nurses to the specialities so that staff gain knowledge and consolidate it through consistent application.
