Endoscopy Unit

Marie Verschoor

Endoscopy Charge Nurse

"Ours is one of the biggest private endoscopy units in the country, and it’s unique because of the range of surgical specialities and combination of endoscopy and minor surgery. It’s a fast paced environment and a dynamic team.
The work is procedure orientated, of course, and it means that you work very closely with the consultants. Nurses here find it rewarding to follow their patients from admission through the procedure and then discharge. Please feel free to ask me more about our clinical work and the unit."

Our purpose-built, stand-alone unit consists of two gastro-intestinal procedure rooms, two surgical procedure rooms, a large reprocessing area, a four cubicle recovery bay, two bedrooms with ensuites, six recliner chairs, three consulting rooms and a reception area.

We perform over 2200 procedures each year, of which 80% are for gastroenterology patients.

As well as diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopies we also provide ERCP, oesophageal and ano-rectal physiology studies, capsule endoscopy, hydrogen breath tests, liver biopsies and therapeutic infusions.

On the surgical side we do minor gynaecological, vascular and urology procedures. The most recent procedure is the MOH's procedure which involves the excision of skin lesions from the face.

There is the opportunity to develop a specialist role within the unit.

Our team consists of a Charge Nurse, seven Registered Nurses, a Health Care Assistant and a Receptionist.

Staffing: The Endoscopy Unit is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to approximately 8.00pm. Most shifts are 08.30am to 5.00pm, but as the unit is open until later we can offer some flexibility in hours. No night cover or on-call is required.
