In addition to part-time practice at the Wakefield Specialist Medical Centre, he is Consultant Rheumatologist and Rehabilitation Physician at Hutt Hospital. He is also Associate Professor (Rehabilitation) at the University of Otago, Wellington, is the Head of the Rehabilitation Teaching & Research Unit and supervises a number of Masters and PhD students. His principle research interests include health-status measurement, especially in relation to psoriatic arthritis and gout, and rehabilitation process, especially goal-setting.

His clinical interests include osteoporosis, adult rheumatology and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
